A fantastic team — each bringing their experience and gifts to support our work.
Rolando Zeledon, Executive Director
Rolando has extensive experience in the nonprofit sector. In 1999 after completing his undergraduate and graduate work in engineering from Stanford University and successfully launching a small business, Rolando joined the Schools Online development team. As Regional Program Director, he later coordinated the installation of thirty-eight Internet Learning Centers in under-resourced urban and rural schools in Spain, India and Latin America.
Before coming to BCM in 2006, Rolando was Executive Producer at Plugged In, an East Palo Alto nonprofit that empowered people “to produce, create and contribute using technology.” There he led the growth of a community portal, EPA.net, and re-launched the teen youth media program, Young Producers. He joined BCM after his tenure there, quickly filling the role of Director of Operations. In 2008, he became the Executive Director.
On a personal note, Rolando and his wife, Dolores, are proud parents of Sophia, Raquel, Christian, and Paulina.
Amy Joh, Director of Partner Development
Amy Joh has served BCM in a variety of capacities since moving to East Palo Alto in June of 2000. She directed StreetWorkz, BCM’s teen ministry, for five years and then served as BCM’s Director of Ministries. Amy is currently the Director of Partner Development, overseeing the training and support of BCM’s staff, interns, fellows, volunteers, parents and short term mission groups.
Amy grew up in McMinnville, Oregon and graduated from Whitman College in Walla Walla, Washington before moving to California. She and her husband, Steve, have two daughters, Bethany and Kyra. Amy enjoys reading, gardening, camping, running and playing soccer in her spare time.
Andrew Hartwell, Director of Ministries
Andrew was one of BCM's founders and served as Executive Director until 2008. He moved to Austin, Texas and worked in a variety of educational settings and consulting projects. Some of the consulting projects were exciting -- especially working with Abundant Life Christian Fellowship in the Bay Area and with The Refuge (Home for Domestic Minor Victims of Sex Trafficking) in Austin -- but they were short-term.
In January 2018, he began working with Austin Bridge Builders Alliance (ABBA). He loved the work of building coalitions among Christian leaders from churches, business, non-profits and government. Unfortunately, in June, ABBA's board created an entirely new direction for the organization. This led to a parting and a new job search. That's when Andrew received the newsletter celebrating Cassie Arnold as she stepped down from the Director of Ministries position. That led to a conversation with Rolando Zeledon, which led to an application and interview process that has resulted in Andrew returning to BCM as the Director of Ministries. He is excited to work with the program team, renew relationships with families and leaders in the community, and to participate in the great work God continues to do through this ministy.

Currently, Ariana is a student at Fuller Theological Seminary, and when she isn’t working or studying, she’s probably doing something with music and also loves rock-climbing, eating, exploring, traveling and going to the beach. She then attended Hope College in Holland MI, where she received degrees in Dance and Business Management. After graduating, Jordan moved to East Palo Alto to work at BCM with Streetworkz. Jordan has been dancing since she was seven and is passionate about the power of the arts, especially in worship contexts. She loves kids and youth, and continues to teach dance at a local studio in addition to her role at BCM. Jordan likes tea, anything chocolate, Jane Austen, Marvel movies, conversations, the beach, and most of all Jesus. She may or may not be obsessed with the color pink.
Kim Shimazaki, Volunteer Coordinator
Born and raised in the Bay Area, Kim earned a B.A. in English from UCLA. After working in Japan for three years, she forged a career in technology and nonprofit sectors. Married and pregnant with her first child, Kim’s path led her to accepting Christ. She enjoys volunteering for local youth-oriented causes and is excited to support all the fantastic volunteers at Bayshore Christian Ministries.
Among the activities Kim enjoys doing in her spare time are exercising, learning the guitar, and spending quality time with her husband and three daughters. A maxim she tries to follow is "Live an intentional life."
Pastor Marcus Givens, Development Officer
Marcus has been part of the BCM family since volunteering for a personnel committee in the early 1990’s. He says he is a proud member of the can’t-get-rid-of-me club! Marcus went to Milpitas High School, studied electrical engineering & ended up with a B.S. in mathematics from Morehouse College, and then received his Master of Divinity degree from Harvard Divinity School. He counts among his hobbies solving Sudoku puzzles (conquering the “Evil” ones); watching classic war movies; reading espionage, submarine warfare, and techno-thriller novels; and watching his favorite show, Star Trek (Original Series).
Dyimah Ansah, Development Associate
Dyimah was raised in Dos Palos CA, a small farm town in the Central Valley. She was homeschooled through high school and went on to obtain her AA in Sociology from Merced Community College and her BA in Economics from UCLA. During her college career Dyimah enjoyed tutoring and mentoring middle school and high school students. During college, she also was an active member of Intervarsity Christian Fellowship which lead her to strengthen and renew her faith.
Now Dyimah lives in Merced and is happily married to her husband Bernard. Dyimah enjoys painting, baking and bike riding. She also loves roller coasters and hopes to, one day, visit all of the amusement parks in the US.
Jennifer Alexander, Operations Manager
Jennifer was born in East Palo Alto and raised between there and Chesterfield, VA. Throughout the years she lived in CA, she attended BCM year-round during elementary and middle school. During her time and participation in KidSmart, StreetWorkz and SAIL, Jennifer says she “was mentored by so many amazing people and created unforgettable memories and relationships”. Jennifer was inspired to attend an HBCU after high school and contribute to various activities that allowed her to empower youth in underprivileged communities. She attended colleges in Texas (PVAMU) and Virginia (VSU) pursuing a computer engineering degree. During her time in Virginia, Jennifer got married and had a beautiful baby girl. Jennifer and her family found their way back to the Bay Area shortly after. Nowadays, when she is not running all over the Bay Area with her active daughter, Jennifer finds herself painting, writing poetry, watching anime, trying new foods and traveling. She also enjoy teaching Sunday school at South Bay Community Church.
In the future, Jennifer plans to continue her education in the field of computer and electrical engineering in which she would love to create a bridge between both her academic and personal passion.
Roberto Mendoza, Sr. Facilities Associate
Roberto Mendoza was born in Michoacán, Mexico, but was raised in East Palo Alto, where he has spent most of his life. At BCM, he serves by maintaining our facilities, translating, greeting everyone, and making sure the building is secure at the end of the day. A self-described “fishing kind of a guy,” when he’s not going out to the shore to catch some salmon, Roberto enjoys cooking tacos and spending time with his beloved family: his wife, two daughters, son, and grandchildren.
